The Denver Pioneers gave up back-to-back power-play goals in the third period and fell against Minnesota Duluth 2-1 in their season opener Wednesday-evening at Baxter Arena. The Pioneers stayed out of the box for the first 40 minutes, but gave the Bulldogs three power play opportunities in the third period.
Minnesota Duluth scored on a penalty for too many men at 1:04 PM and again 48 seconds later on McKade Webster’s stumbling penalty at 1:52 PM.
The Pioneers started to score in the second half when Bo Hanson’s wrist shot broke off the stick of a UMD defender.
Duluth took the lead in the third period and did not look back. The Bulldogs scored back-to-back goals in 48 seconds on secondary shots to the net to capture the Pios in their season opener.
