A young man was caught in front of the camera in a vicious attack that left a retired bloodied man in a Detroit nursing home.
Disturbing videos can be seen on social media in which a 20-year-old man repeatedly hits a 75-year-old fellow patient in the head against a bed.
While the weak retiree struggles to get up, the man waves his fists at his face and yells, “Get off my bed.”
The video has even prompted US President Donald Trump to voice his shock.
He wrote on Twitter yesterday: “Is this even possible to believe? Can this be real? Where’s this nursing home, how’s the victim?”
Joann Uhler, a Cleveland area woman who warned authorities, told Detroit Fox 2, “It definitely broke my heart.
“It just broke my heart how someone would be capable of this kind of cruelty.
“Why is this hidden because they are responsible for caring for these patients, whether it is this young man who has a mental illness or these elderly patients who cannot defend themselves.”
Detroit authorities were sent to investigate the incident, and Detroit police later said they arrested the 20-year-old and sent the victim to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, WDIV reported.
Nursing home employees told the police they had not seen the video, but claimed that the young man was not a long-term resident, but was hospitalized for rehabilitation.
They also said the video was shot on May 15.
Saif Kasmikha of Midwest Legal Partners, a law firm representing the nursing home, said in a statement, “Westwood is working with the police and will continue to do so.
“The safety, health and wellbeing of our residents remains a top priority for Westwood. We will continue to monitor the situation.”
Detroit police said on Twitter: “Thank you all for helping us bring the home incident to our attention.
The @detroitpolice is investigating the situation and an arrest has been made. Thanks again.’
