Piers Morgan return to Good Morning Britain registers 76 complaints

Good Morning Britain registered 76 Ofcom complaints as Piers Morgan made an outspoken return to the show after a week’s absence.

The controversial host, who has been the subject of 4,000 accusations already this year, has antagonised many viewers and split opinion with his combative presenting style over the last few months.

But, according to Ofcom, the latest complaints “related to a range of issues, not specifically Piers Morgan.”

Piers, 55, marked his comeback with an tirade directed at Boris Johnson and his aide Dominic Cummings, reports MirrorOnline.

He accused the Prime Minister’s aide of ‘destroying lockdown’ by flouting the rules to drive from London to Durham.

Susanna then teased an irate Piers by asking if he’d taken an eye test during absence in a swipe at the special advicer’s excuse for visiting Barnard Castle.

“I drove 250 miles to Durham to see a castle,” quipped Piers. “My eyesight was so bad I put my children in the back of my car so that just in case I did crash.. . to check my eyesight wasn’t as bad as I feared I put my children in the back of my car because that is what you do.”

He went on: “Why don’t we call it what it is, Dominic Cummings is a liar.

“He broke the rules we know it, everyone knows it… they’re not gonna shut me down, he broke every rule there is to break.”

Piers added: “We didn’t all break the rules. The rules were very straight forward. Every part of this stinks and there he is back in his work station like nothing happened.”

The presenter revealed at the weekend that he was set to stay on GMB after signing a new ITV contract.

He told The Sun’s TV magazine that he would remain with the show until the end of next year.

I love working with Susanna and the team – we’re a Ying Yang that works,” he explained.

Piers also said he ‘doesn’t care’ about any backlash.

“If my style upsets people, don’t watch! Watch something else. Nobody’s forcing anyone to watch it. You’ve got a remote control in your hand, I really don’t understand what the problem is.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
