Smoke and trail of destruction when plane crashes
Shortly after the pilot reportedly notified Air Traffic Control of a technical malfunction, a plane carrying 107 passengers crashed into houses.
The Pakistan International Airlines jet was on its last approach at Karachi Airport when it crashed in a residential area near Model Colony and disappeared from the radar.
A number of houses were damaged or destroyed and a major rescue operation was carried out to rescue survivors.
A civil aviation authority spokesperson told local media that 99 passengers and eight crew members were on board the Airbus A320.
Photos and video show a huge cloud of black smoke pouring into the air after the crash, which happened around 2:45 p.m. local time on Friday.
Flight PK8303 was on a domestic trip from Lahore.
Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) sources said the captain had reported a technical malfunction and that the plan had disappeared from the radar shortly before landing at Karachi airport.
