PM's car in prang after protester runs in front of convoy

Boris Johnson’s convoy was targeted by a protester as the Prime Minister left the Palace of Westminster.

The demonstrator, who had been protesting about Turkish action against Kurdish rebels, ran into the road outside the gates to Parliament, reports the Mirror.

This forced the lead vehicles in the convoy – a police motorbike and the Prime Minister’s Jaguar – to stop, with a support vehicle running into the back of the luxury saloon carrying Mr Johnson.

The vehicles drove off shortly afterwards in the direction of Downing Street, with a large dent visible on the rear of the Jaguar.

Downing Street said there were no reports of anyone being injured in the incident.

The protester was detained by police and taken into the Palace of Westminster by officers.

Footage shows the protester being grabbed and dragged out of the way by officers as the convoy carrying Mr Johnson – led by a police motorbike – comes to a screeching halt just outside the Palace of Westminster’s gates.

The man is then swarmed by officers in the road and forced to the floor as the security convoy carries on towards Downing Street.

A huge dent was visible in the back of the silver Jaguar following what appeared to be a minor collision. A No10 spokesman said there were no injuries in the collision.

A Number 10 spokesman confirmed the car was Mr Johnson’s, adding: “I think the video speaks for itself as to what happened. No reports of anybody being injured.”

The spokesman said Mr Johnson was travelling in the car at the time.

The incident occurred after Mr Johnson attended Prime Minister’s Questions.

In the video, protesters are gathered outside Parliament and in Parliament Square, where statues are still boarded up following violent demonstrations at the weekend.

People chant and jeer Mr Johnson’s convoy when a man runs in front of the police motorcycle as he is chased by officers.

This forced the lead vehicles in the convoy – a police motorbike and the Prime Minister’s Jaguar – to stop, with a support vehicle running into the back of the luxury saloon carrying the PM.

The man is grabbed and dragged away by police as a woman shouts “oh” and “oh my God”.

As the Prime Minister’s vehicle drives off within seconds of the collision, police are heard screaming: “Stay back.”

“Rear ended the PM’s car,” a witness says.

Demonstrators then gather round as the protester was detained by police.

Police continue to tell the crowd to “stay back” while some witnesses are heard shouting “leave him alone”.

Additional officers arrive and the shouts of police grow louder as people refuse to move back.

A crowd of demonstrators then begins to chant as police clear the road and the situation appears to calm down.

The protester was detained by police and taken into the Palace of Westminster by officers, said witnesses.
