The Royal Mint has announced that it will issue a special coin to celebrate a beloved character from a children’s story.
The coin maker will launch a Winnie the Pooh 50p as part of a collection inspired by AA Milne’s childhood stories.
The new collection will follow in the footsteps of Royal Mint’s Beatrix Potter range, which features special Peter Rabbit pieces.
The upcoming Winnie the Pooh 50p is launched to celebrate the character’s 100th birthday, the Manchester Evening News reports.
The Royal Mint said, “Long ago, a bear with very little brain crashed down the stairs and into our world. He loves honey, Christopher Robin and all his friends.
‘He’s known for his humming, snuggling up in smackers and getting into all kinds of sticky places. We all know and love Winnie the Pooh.
Bee-ginning with Winnie the Pooh 50p coin, we’re introducing a series of designs inspired by A.A. Milne’s classic stories.
“Please welcome Winnie the Pooh and friends into your life as they appear for the first time on a UK 50p coin.”
It has not yet been announced when the coins will be released, or if they will be collectibles rather than in general circulation.
The design is also being kept secret for the time being.
