The Angels will continue to pay their minor league players $ 400 a week through late June, a source confirmed to the Southern California News Group on Friday.
Small players from all 30 teams now receive at least $ 400 a week through the end of the month. The Oakland A’s were the only team to halt weekly payments, while the minor league season paused before the Covid-19 outbreak.
The owner of A, John Fisher told the San Francisco Chronicle on Friday that he changed his mind after consulting with the team’s front office. He apologized and promised to pay small leaguers $ 400 a week until the end of their previously planned seasons.
The A’s and Angels were two of the four teams to announce their minor league payout plans this week. The Dodgers previously committed to paying $ 400 a week through the end of June. Additionally, pitcher David Price will personally send a $ 1,000 check to every Dodger minor league player this month.
Major League Baseball and the MLB Players’ Association are currently negotiating the parameters of a possible 2020 season. Some players currently in teams’ minor league systems are expected to be added to the Major League roster when the season begins.
