Tourists entering Spain will be quarantined for 14 days as the country continues to advance from the coronavirus lock.
The Ministry of Health has announced plans that will enter into force on May 15 and continue until May 24 until the end of the state of emergency. The government will then decide whether to continue.
Visitors must remain locked up and may only go outside to shop for groceries, go to health centers and in case of ’emergency’, an official order said.
But if the state of emergency is extended by another two weeks, travel restrictions will continue to apply.
Travel agencies and tour operators have been instructed to inform travelers about the new measures before selling tickets to Spanish destinations.
Airlines must ensure that passengers complete a passenger location map upon arrival in Spain.
During the quarantine period, visitors to Spain must stay in their accommodation and can only go out to buy food, medicines and basic needs or to get help from health centers or hospitals.
They should wear a face cover when going outdoors or in confined spaces.
“The favorable evolution of the epidemiological situation in Spain and the beginning of the escalation make it necessary to strengthen control measures by applying quarantine measures to persons coming from abroad for 14 days,” said the Spanish government decision.
Health authorities can contact quarantined visitors for a follow-up and if they show symptoms such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, or other conditions related to coronavirus, they should immediately contact quarantined visitors’ medical services, the Order emphasized.
