A special needs cat named Yohji has stolen the hearts of the internet with his adorable underbite.
It was love at first sight for owner Kim who came across a photo of Yohji on a Craigslist ad for a litter of kittens, which revealed he had certain “birth flaws” and was a special needs cat.
The 27-year-old from Haarlem, the Netherlands, instantly knew she wanted the seal-point Persian cat to be part of her family.
Kim, who lives with boyfriend Wouter, 31, said: “We got Yohji from a litter that we found out about via an advertisement on the Dutch craigslist.
“We read about him having ‘flaws’ and we just knew we wanted to get him to be part of our little family. He is part of our family and therefore I would say we adopted him.
“I’m just really happy he didn’t have to suffer first to find his forever home.
“Cats like Yohji, who are higher maintenance because of their birth flaws and are therefore considered special needs, often end up with people who don’t know how to take care of them, or simply don’t want to take care of them and then bring them to shelters or even dump them on the streets.
“A cat should always be a part of the family, I don’t like the term buying for a cat, because that would mean you would buy them as some sort of product.”
Kim has since started an Instagram page for Yohji which has amassed over 34.5K followers – and he has stolen hearts on the internet.
Yohji loves cuddling up with his owners and is a ball of energy, constantly jumping around and chatting away with his distinctive meow.
The Persian cat’s whiskers are shaped in a very unique way – and vets don’t understand why.
Yohji has recently had surgery for several dental issues and needs extra care because of his condition – but Kim wouldn’t have it any other way.
She said: “He is a very happy little lad; he loves to jump around the house but also loves sleeping a lot. He is a silly lovebug that likes to cuddle up to us. He is very talkative and has a very loud meow that he isn’t afraid to use.
“Nobody knows but apparently it’s common for Persians to have wonky whiskers but his are really something else. The vets don’t really have an explanation for them. Luckily, they don’t bother him.
“Right now, he is on a special veterinary diet due to him having problems with an upset tummy after he had surgery for his dental issues
“He has a unique face. People love the combination of his big blue expressive eyes, the wonky whiskers and the underbite.
“He is a very expressive kitty and because I’m able to spend a lot of time with him I can get a lot of cute pictures and videos from him.
“He just makes me really happy and I wanted to share that happy feeling with the internet.”
