Strictly Come Dancing announces first three celebrities for 2020 series line up

Three celebrities who will be taking to the floor for Strictly Come Dancing have been announced tonight (September 1) on BBC One’s The One Show.

The bright light in the BBC’s autumn schedule is returning to our scenes soon and the first three famous faces taking to the ballroom are a much-loved Brit actress, former American footballer and a massive boy band star.

The Strictly dream has become real for Caroline Quentin, Jason Bell and Max George.

Award-winning actress, broadcaster and national treasure, Caroline Quentin is well known for a wide range of acting roles including Maddie in Jonathan Creek, DCI Janine Lewis in Blue Murder, plus star roles in Kiss Me Kate, Life Begins and Life of Riley.

Best known for starring as Dorothy in hit sitcom Men Behaving Badly, Caroline has also presented a number of documentaries, as well as two very successful series of Extraordinary Homes for BBC Two and performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2019.

She spoke to The One Show presenters Alex Jones and Amol Rajan via video link.

She said: “I’ve been keeping it very quiet and it’s really difficult because I like to chat!

“It’s great, I can say it now. I’m going to be there doing those crazy dances soon.

“Bit scared but quite excited.”

Caroline took ballet lessons as a child, from the age of three up until 12, and said she still remembered some of the moves.

She added: “I hope my knees don’t let me down!”

Joining Caroline is Jason Bell, sports broadcaster and former NFL player.

A former professional American footballer, Jason played as a cornerback/safety in the National Football League for the Dallas Cowboys.

He then played for the Houston Texans, where he was named a recipient of the Ed Block Courage Award, one of the league’s highest honors. He finished his professional career with the New York Giants.

Jason now co-hosts The Jason & Osi Podcast with fellow NFL alum Osi Umenyiora. Alongside Osi he also presents the NFL Show on BBC.

He told The One Show: “I am thrilled, I am a huge fan of the show, I’ve been watching it since I came to this country.

“It’s time for me to do something cool to impress my daughter now she’s old enough to watch me perform.”

“It was two people I had to tell and they run my life, that’s my daughter and her mother.

“I told them both and they are so excited and ready to support me all the way.

He said he hoped to “perform at a high level and learn from the best”.

The third celebrity announced tonight was ainger Max George from The Wanted.

Max said: “Buzzing to be on Strictly this year.

“Not really one for the dance floor, but I take a lot of comfort in the fact that Jay McGuiness set The Wanted’s bar so low…”

Max George from The Wanted is the third celeb to be named

Max shot to fame as a member of The Wanted. The band had two number 1 singles in the UK and reached the top 3 in the US Billboard charts.

After The Wanted took a break, Max moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career and starred in the 6th season of Glee as Clint. More recently he has returned to music as a solo artist.

The 18th series will also see some other changes.
