Study: Drug touted by Trump as COVID-19 treatment tied to increased risk of death

A malaria drug hydroxychloroquine, which US President Donald Trump says has been used, was linked to an increased risk of death in a study involving 96,000 COVID-19 patients, according to an article in The Lancet.

The study found that people treated with hydroxychloroquine, or the closely related drug chloroquine, had a higher risk of death in hospital compared to those who were not given the drug.
