Taylor Swift has announced a surprise album which will be released at midnight.
Entitled ‘Folklore’ it’s her eighth studio album overall and was revealed on her Instagram and Twitter pages today (July 23).
In a statement on social media she told fans: “Most of the things I had planned this summer didn’t end up happening, but there is something I hadn’t planned on that DID happen. And that thing is my 8th studio album, folklore.
“Tonight at midnight I’ll be releasing my entire brand new album of songs I’ve poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into. I wrote and recorded this music in isolation but got to collaborate with some musical heroes of mine.”.
This includes Bon Iver, The National’s Aaron Dessner and producer Jack Antonoff who she’s worked with previously on ‘Lover’ and ‘1989’.
She continues to say: “Before this year I probably would’ve overthought when to release this music at the ‘perfect’ time, but the times we’re living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed.”.
“My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world. That’s the side of uncertainty I can get on board with. Love you guys so much”.
The album features 16 tracks including lead single ‘Cardigan’, which will be released tonight (July 23) with a video written and directed by the singer.
Free trials are available on both Amazon (currently 90 days) and Apple (30 days). Spotify offers a free service with adverts and a premium service without. All options cost £9.99 p/m.
The announcement comes less than a year after the release of her seventh studio album ‘Lover’, which reached number one in the UK and US.
The album which features singles hit singles ‘ME!’ and ‘You Need To Calm Down’ was due to be accompanied by a world tour entitled ‘Lover Fest’ this summer.
The festival tour would’ve seen her perform in European countries for the first time ever, as well as return to Hyde Park for British Summer Time and headline Glastonbury Festival on Sunday night.
However due to the coronavrius pandemic she was forced to cancel the entire tour and it’s unknown if she’ll return to the festival lineups for 2021.
