Texas prep football player attacks referee

EDINBURG, Texas – A high school soccer player stormed onto the field Thursday night and bent over a referee, angry after he was kicked out of the game.

Edinburg High School’s senior defensive lineman Emmanuel Duron came running off the sidelines after the referee announced the goalkeeper-throw and hit in the first half of the zone play-in game against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo.

Duron was escorted from the stadium by police officers.

The McAllen Monitor reported that the referee was assessed for a concussion by medical personnel at the stadium.

The game resumed after a stoppage, with Edinburg winning 35-21 to advance to the playoffs.

The District 31-6A Defensive Player of the Year last season, Duron is also the kicker and punt for the Bobcats and a star wrestler.
