A former Great Ormond Street Hospital porter has admitted sex crimes against six boys aged six and over and over 35.
Paul Farrell, 55, pleaded guilty to 58 child crimes committed between 1985 and 2020, including attempted rape, sexual assault on a child under the age of 13, and taking indecent photographs of children.
The charges relate to six victims, who cannot be named for legal reasons, who are now between eight and 43 years old.
The youngest was between six and seven years old when he was abused in 1988.
Farrell held a number of positions, including as a doorman, at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in central London between 1994 and 2020.
Wood Green Crown Court heard that at least two victims claimed they had been sexually assaulted by Farrell in the hospital.
Thousands of children in Birmingham are headed for a Christmas without a proper home this year – but there is something you can do.
Our campaign, Grant a Christmas #BrumWish, aims to buy gifts for more than 1,000 young people who are cramped together, sharing beds, in soulless rooms in B & Bs, and others who will be staying at a women’s relief center.
It’s all through an Amazon Wishlist – meaning you can personally purchase a gift that will be delivered before December 25th.
Make sure you set delivery for the # BrumWish campaign, and we make sure that the presents get to the children.
But Judge Noel Lucas said on Friday: “ The Prosecution made it clear that this is not a case where it is claimed that Mr. access. “
The Metropolitan Police said Farrell was first arrested on January 16 and appeared before the Highbury Magistrates’ Court after being charged.
But allegations say his insult lasted until June of this year, in which a boy under 13 was sexually assaulted “during lockdown”.
Farrell appeared at Wood Green Crown Court, North London on Friday, wearing a red jacket over a blue sweater and glasses, to plead guilty to 33 charges.
When asked by the judge why there were so many counts on the charges, prosecutor Paul Douglas said, “With regard to (a complainant) the offense was frequent over a 10-year period, there were different types of offenses.”
Farrell previously admitted 25 charges at a previous hearing.
The 58 charges he has pleaded guilty include: two charges of indecency with a child; 17 counts of sexual assault on a man; 14 counts of sexual assault on a child under the age of 13; five counts in which a child under the age of 13 is sexually active; four counts of sexual activity with a child under the age of 13; eight counts of sexual activity with a child under 16; three counts in which a child under the age of 16 is sexually active; two attempted rape; three counts of taking indecent pictures of children.
Farrell has denied 21 additional charges, including: 11 counts of sexual assault on a man; a count of attempted rape against a child under the age of 13; six counts of sexual assault on a child under the age of 13; one count of sexual activity with a child under 16; one count of rape; pay once for a child’s sexual services.
The Great Ormond Street Hospital said in a statement Wednesday, “These are really terrible allegations and we know that our hospital community, including our patient families, will have concerns or questions.
“Due to ongoing legal proceedings, we cannot go into the details of the case, but we can confirm that the person charged against has been fired from the Trust and we continue to work closely with the police.
“Child protection is fundamental to the care we provide and our policies are in line with national best practices.
“When patients, their families or colleagues raise concerns about staff, there is a clear and prompt process to deal with these concerns when they are reported. This includes calling the police where necessary.”
The next hearing will be on February 5 next year.
