Twitter row erupts between Piers Morgan and Dan Walker after GMB rant

A war of words has erupted between Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan and BC Breakfast’s Dan Walker after the ITV host outed him for his interviewing technique live on air.

With the government ‘boycott’ of Good Morning Britain rolling on into its ninth week, the ITV show shared a segment of Dan Walker interviewing Health Secretary Matt Hancock from BBC Breakfast.

The BBC host asked Matt Hancock whether he would publish the figure which shows the number of people who have been tested after stopping five weeks ago.

The Health Secretary said the figures “didn’t add anything”.

Immediately after running the segment, Piers took aim at the BBC host telling him to ‘get in there’:

“Get in there Walker! For goodness sake man. He’s talking complete nonsense.”

A stunned Suzanna Reid responded by adding: “Oh my goodness, now you’re ranting at presenters on other programmes!”

Piers continued by saying: “Because he’s giving the interviews! Because he won’t jump in… and say ‘What are you talking about Health Secretary?'”

You can see the moment Piers went on to mock Dan Walker after the BBC host responded to his rant shortly after on Twitter.

In response to Piers’ comments on Good Morning Britain, Dan Walker took to Twitter to fire back: “It is essential that politicians are allowed to speak. The idea (from some) that we, and others, don’t challenge ministers is completely untrue.

“Important to ask questions Important to press Important to let you listen Thanks for watching #BBCBreakfast.”

“No mate, you blew it. It’s not my fault you had a chance, the Health Secretary gave you a load of flannel, about why the number of people is meaningless and you should have torn him to ribbons.

“That’s your job. It’s not to sit back and let him spout complete nonsense. So you can Tweet all the self-important rubbish you like, next time, jump in and don’t let him get away with it.”

Good Morning Britain producers went on to show a screen grab of Dan Walker on BBC Breakfast with a ‘fart noise’ played over the clip.

Come on Dan, get a grip son… poor Dan, poor Dan.” added Piers:

“Dan, less Tweeting, more getting in.

You can see those moments in the video above.

In the final ad break of GMB, Piers retweeted Dan’s Tweet saying: “Mate, you blew it. Calm down.”

Thousands flocked to Twitter to respond to the row between the two presenters.

One Tweeted: “Yeah Dan, you blew the chance to ask the tough questions about erm, Ironing, this morning….”

Another added: “@piersmorgan jealous much”

Others joined Piers Morgan with questioning Dan Walker and the BBC’s approach to interviewing politicians:

One replied to Dan Walker saying: “It’s the important to press part that you are missing Dan.

“It’s not important to just move on when they don’t. We would rather see them boycott ALL shows than be allowed to spout nonsense unchallenged.”

Another added: “People allow you to interview them because they know you will give them an easy ride. There is a difference between listening to answers and a probing interview – ask @piersmorgan”

GMB returns at 6am on ITV tomorrow morning.
