Widely regarded as the world’s first Bitcoin billionaires, the Winklevoss twins now say that BTC is not the only crypto asset in their wallets.
In a new interview with Camila Russo of The Defiant, Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, co-founders of the crypto exchange Gemini, say they are also major investors in Ethereum, the second most valuable cryptocurrency by market capitalization.
“We certainly have a lot of Ether. They are large and it is a material quantity, yes quite large … I think it is safe to say material by everyone’s standards, such as one’s wealth. “
The twins have not disclosed the exact amount of their investment in Ethereum, but have hinted that it is from “the same universe” and “the same galaxy” as their Bitcoin holdings.
“It is quite large. A few years ago we made a concerted effort to buy a lot of Ether. ‘
In 2013, the twins revealed they own 120,000 BTC, which is equal to 1% of all Bitcoin in circulation at the time. With Bitcoin hovering at $ 9,196, the value of the BTC asset is now over $ 1.1 billion.
If the twins’ interest in ETH is comparable to their Bitcoin investment, Tyler and Cameron could keep about 4% of all Ethereum in circulation.
