A funeral home’s cousin has been arrested on suspicion of having sex with a series of female corpses in a Bangladesh mortuary.
Munna Vhakta, 20, is accused of running the disease campaign for more than a year while working as his uncle’s assistant.
The alleged necrophile was labeled “disgusting” after being arrested by Dhaka police.
He was detained after DNA tests were taken from the bodies in the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Bangladesh’s capital.
According to reports, the morgue worker is now charged with sex with corpses after a tip to the police in India.
He has been named as the nephew of hospital undertaker Jatan Kumar, who had worked as his assistant for the past two years.
CID Assistant Police Inspector Jisan Ul Haque told the New Age newspaper that officers arrested Munna on Thursday for alleged crimes that took place from March 2019 to August this year.
DNA tests in the CID lab confirmed Munna’s necrophilia, with Asst Spt Ul Haque saying, “The man was arrested after police found evidence.”
He added that sexual intercourse with corpses, or necrophilia, is a serious and disgusting crime.
CID agents said they received some high vaginal smears from the Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital’s department of forensics and male sperm was present.
After DNA testing, CID lab results showed that were from one person, the papers report.
Investigators told the paper that primary research showed that bodies were from the areas of Mohammadpur and Kafrul.
The officer said they found the bodies were kept in the morgue for at least a day before completing various procedures.
Detectives tracked down at least five incidents, with Munna being in the morgue those nights.
CID alleged to the newspaper that after Munna’s arrest, they performed a DNA test in their lab where all sperm in corpses matched him, Jisan said.
