The Boston Red Sox today selected University of Hawaii left-handed pitcher Jeremy Wu-Yelland in the fourth round of the Major League Baseball Draft for freshmen.
Wu-Yelland was taken 118th overall. MLB.com lists that slot with an estimated signing bonus of $ 487,900.
Growing up in Spokane, Washington, Wu-Yelland dominated as a reliever in the 2020 season that was cut short due to the pandemic. Wu-Yelland scored a 0.69 earn-run average and averaged 11.1 strikeouts per nine innings.
Wu-Yelland’s fastball was in the range of 92 to 96 mph this season. It reached a top speed of 97 mph. His best performance was against second-ranked Vanderbilt, when he threw four scoreless innings of relief.
