Venezuelan Retailing Heavyweight Starts Accepting Bitcoin, Altcoins

rattan, a popular shopping mall in Venezuela, has become the country’s youngest retailer to announce that it will accept payments in Bitcoin (BTC) and a range of altcoins.

To Tweet by the media company Criptolugares, republished through crypto exchanges CryptobuyerThe trading platform has signed a contract with Rattan that will initially include the Plaza branch of the Rattan supermarket network, one of the busiest retailers on Margarita Island, in the state of Nueva Esparta.

The deal enables Rattan Plaza buyers to buy Bitcoin using Cryptobuyer’s Cryptobuyer Pay solution, as well as Litecoin (LTC), Dash (DASH), Ethereum (ETH), Binance Coin (BNB), Dai (DAI) and Tether (USDT) in-store) and Cryptobuyers own native ERC-20-based cryptoasset.

The news follows on from Cryptobuyer’s announcement last month that it had signed a deal with the Venezuelan supermarket chain Excelsior Range. As with the rattan deal, the Excelsior Gama deal allows buyers of the latter to send the same set of eight cryptoassets instead of fiat bolivars.

And the same exchange was also instrumental in the introduction of crypto pay solutions for the Crazy Nationwide department store chain – customers can pay in crypto here, including the state-run PTR (Oil Backed Petro) token.

Large hotels in Venezuela have also started rolling out Crypto Pay (some in Argentina are now to follow), with Crypto Pay also being made possible through point-of-sale (POS) devices in numerous smaller stores across the country at gas stations beginning this one Annual green light to accept crypto payments.
