Warning over six apps that can access your bank account

Android phone and tablet users are being warned about six apps which come with hidden malware capable of accessing your bank account.

Researchers from Pradeo say the apps have been infected with a dangerous malware dubbed Joker.

Pradeo explained: “Joker is a malicious bot (categorized as Fleeceware) which main activity is to simulate clicks and intercept SMS to subscribe to unwanted paid premium services unbeknownst to users.

“By using as little code as possible and thoroughly hiding it, Joker generates a very discreet footprint that can be tricky to detect.”

In the last year, Joker has been found hiding in hundreds of apps, reports The Mirror.

Now, Pradeo has identified six newly infected apps, including Emoji Wallpaper and Safety AppLock.

The six apps were found to have been downloaded nearly 200,000 times.

Pradeo added: “Users are advised to immediately delete them from their device to avoid fraudulent activities.”
