Woman expecting triplets in mourning as husband takes life after 'snap decision'

A cricket coach whose wife is expecting triplets is believed to have taken his own life after making a ‘snap decision’.

Matt Conwell, 32, died in Brisbane, Australia, on September 2 leaving crushed partner Ashleigh in mourning.

The 29-year-old is expecting their three babies later this year. He was hit by a car last Wednesday.

The widow’s sister Emily Fallon said that her brother-in-law was struggling “as a result of the coronavirus pandemic”.

She told the Courier Mail : “It was a snap decision, a moment of clouded judgement, and it was totally out of character.

“This year’s been very tough for everyone, even the strongest of people you thought could get through it.

“While there were some struggles and stresses there, it just shows suicide doesn’t discriminate.

“The outpouring of support is a testament to the kind of person Matt was – very non-judgemental, very genuine and caring, an unassuming, quiet person who had time for everyone.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up by family friend Alexandra Nesevski to help her deal financially with losing her husband.

It has already raised over $130,000 after police confirmed the man had taken his own life.

“On Wednesday, 2 September, young husband and father-to-be Matt Conwell passed away in sudden and tragic circumstances,” Nesevski wrote.

“The pregnancy, delivery and care of triplets is challenging for any couple.

“This has now been made so much more difficult for Ashleigh with the loss of her beloved soulmate, who was so looking forward to meeting his babies.”

“Ashleigh is the strongest woman I know; we want to help her continue Matt’s legacy.

“To be having three babies and not to have your husband beside you who you had this dream with, it is absolutely gut-wrenching.

“Losing Matt has placed an almost overwhelming burden on Ashleigh.”
