A woman was removed from a Delta flight after punching an air hostess in the face.
The passenger got into a heated argument over the face mask policy on the flight on Monday evening to Atlanta from Miami.
Footage shared on social media captures the woman in a purple jacket standing on the aisle and yelling at the flight attendant.
It is said that she is not wearing the face mask properly and has it pulled down to the chin.
She then strike the uniformed worker in the face as other stunned passengers watched in shock.
One woman can be heard saying behind the camera: “Woah, woah! She’s in her face, oh Lord.
“You can’t be fighting the flight attendant.”
The enraged passenger shouts at the crew member: “You shouldn’t have touched me. You pushed me.”
BBC reporter Katty Kay, who was also on the plane, said airport police boarded the plane to remove the passenger and her travel companion, but then another hold-up on the tarmac involving the passengers delayed the flight even longer.
She posted on Twitter: “Delta handling this very responsibly
“Why get on the plane in the first place if you’re going to refuse to follow the safety rules?”
Delta said in a statement that the passengers were booted off the plane for not complying with safety instructions.
Miami-Dade Police said no arrests have been made in connection to the incident.
A spokesperson for Delta Airlines said: “There is nothing more important than the safety of our people and customers.
“That’s why two customers who did not comply with crew safety instructions were asked to deplane Flight 1997 this evening [sic].
“We do not tolerate violence of any kind and this situation is currently under investigation.
“We apologise to customers for the flight delay this caused.”
